VIRGINIA BEER COMPANY

The Virginia Beer Co. (VBC) Free Verse

IPA โ€“ New England โ„ 6.8% ABV โ„ Williamsburg, VA
โ€“ Tropical, Hazy, Juicy โ€“

This juicy, tropical, and hazy IPA expresses itself without limitation thanks to copious helpings of Azacca and Chinook Hops.

CAN NOTE! Some naturally occurring sediment is normal and expected.

The Virginia Beer Co. (VBC) Prost!

Altbier โ€“ Traditional โ„ 5% ABV โ„ Williamsburg, VA
This German-style Altbier is malty, traditional, & autumnal. Our recipe is a nod to the Rhineland roots of the style: a top-fermented, copper-coloured โ€œOktoberfest Aleโ€. Warming hints of dark chocolate & freshly browned bread blend with spicy aromas meant to inspire the feeling of the fall biergarten season. Prost!

COMMONWEALTH BREWERY

Commonwealth Papi Chulo

IPA โ€“ New England โ„ 6.5% ABV โ„ 56 IBU โ„ Virginia Beach, VA
Big, round, all the hops monster of fruit and dank herbs. Hazy, unfiltered, huge body and balanced bitterness.

Commonwealth Oktoberfest

Mรคrzen โ„ 5.1% ABV โ„ 25 IBU โ„ Virginia Beach, VA

A super crushable, smooth, lightly malt forward lager is the perfect beer for fall

PORT CITY

Port City Oktoberfest

Mรคrzen โ„ 5.2% ABV โ„ 24 IBU โ„ Alexandria, VA
Port City Oktoberfest is a Mรคrzen-style lager, brewed with German malts and hops, and served in the โ€œKellerโ€ or โ€œZwickelโ€ style โ€“ meaning unfiltered and naturally carbonated. This bright amber beer has subtle flavors of toasted bread, leading to a clean, dry finish punctuated by just a touch of Noble hops

Port City German Pilsner

Kellerbier โ„ 4.6% ABV โ„ 35 IBU โ„ Alexandria, VA
Looking to Germany for inspiration, our German Pilsner is drier and blonder than the classic Bohemian-style pilsner. Brewed with pilsner malt and Noble hops, German Pilsner has a floral and spicy aroma with flavors of lightly sweet malt, finishing firm and dry on the palate. This refreshing pilsner is served in the โ€œKellerโ€ style, meaning unfiltered and naturally carbonated. Beauty in simplicity, as this two malt and three hop lager won a gold medal at the 2019 GABFยฎ in the Kellerbier/Zwickelbier category.

History of Oktoberfest:

Oktoberfest is the worldโ€™s largest beer festival. Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a folk festival running from mid or late September into October (this year it officially starts in Munich on September 21st), with more than 6 million people from around the world in attendance every year. Locally, it is often called the Wiesn, after the colloquial name for the fairgrounds (Theresienwiese). Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since 1810.

Kronprinz (Crown Prince) Ludwig (1786-1868), later King Ludwig I (reign: 1825-1848), married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the royal event. The fields were named Theresienwiese (โ€œTheresaโ€™s Meadowโ€) in honour of the Crown Princess, and have kept that name ever since, although the locals have since abbreviated the name simply to the โ€œWiesnโ€. Horse races, in the tradition of the 15th century Scharlachrennen (Scarlet Race at Karlstor), were held on October 17 to honor the newlyweds. Every year since this tradition has been repeated and is now called โ€œOktoberfestโ€.
